HATE

With Black Friday only a few days from now, my SAD is kicking up into high gear.

God, I hate this time of year.

I hate the conspicuous consumerism.

I hate the holiday displays in the malls.

I hate the corny music.

I hate it getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon.

I hate the cold.

I hate the very idea of snow.

I hate the smell of balsam.

Hate, hate, hate.

Bah, humbug.

I live a bit North, in Montreal, so I can relate to what you are saying, but I disagree on one point:
I love winter. I love getting back home, grab a hot coffee or chocolate and appreciate the "coziness" of our home.
My advise would be: do winter sports! Maybe take you children to skate outside, or ski...
But Christmas is a whole other issue. Christmas does not mean anything to me anymore. Too capitalist, right after Halloween we are flooded by publicity. It is horrible, painful and well... yes I HATE IT.

You know, growing up, I loved winter sports. Played hockey, skied. My kids skate. So we're not immune to winter activities. But the older I've gotten, the less tolerant of winter I've become.

Part of it is the arduousness of snow removal, part of it is the sense of biting winds nipping at your skin. Part of it is that I've lived in a warm climate in the winter before, and frankly, I miss it.
