My thoughts on the new Pope

...

I got absolutely nothing.

I can't think of anything less relevant to my life right now that the election of some crufty olde German dude to head up the Catholic church.

That is all.

I expect, given his age, that Pope Benelux the 92nd won't reign for too long...

Edit:

The Catholic church ain't anywhere near a schism yet over "liberation theology," that's for darn sure.

When that happens, 500 years from now at this rate, that'll make for some interesting news.

In the interim, it's "Meet the new boss/Same as the old boss," in the words of The Who.

As Cardinal Ratzinger, B XVI stated his opinion that it's a sin for Catholic voters to vote for a pro-choice candidate. Some think this helped to elect Bush.

It isn't a stretch to imagine that he might extend his meddling into our political process with issues like stem-cell research,

And for those of us whose marriage lives in limbo (not strictly a gay marriage, but appears that way from the outside), and who therefore sometimes feel very afraid in this political climate. And those of us with family members who might one day benefit from stem cell research if the research could ever be done, well we are considerably underwhelmed by the new pontiff.

When choosing a Pope, picking the 'conservative' one sounds pretty redundant.
