Bah, humbug

At the risk of sounding like a party pooper, I really hate April Fool's Day. Every year there's a parade of phony press releases by companies looking to make their mark on the day. By the end of the day, readers are so shell-shocked that they don't know what to believe. It's just lame.

What, you mean like this? http://www.google.com/googlegulp/

Aww, I've had lots of fun with Blizzard news today.

But Fark.com does go too far today.

I have an April Fool's routine: Every year on April 1 I post a bunch of bogus stories on MacGamer. I do this not to fool people, but hopefully to make them laugh. There's a difference; if I'm fooled, it's sometimes funny, usually not. Most of the time I can see through it and it's not funny. If I read something funny that's not trying to trick me, that's different. I prefer the latter.

I can't assume everyone feels the same and I hope that Macgamer isn't part of that annoying tide of April Fool's Day crap of which Peter is speaking. I'm just saying that there's a difference.
