Happiness Runs in a Suckular Motion

So Delta Air Lines is running these new TV ads with Donovan as the soundtrack.

I friggin' hate Donovan.

The song is "Happiness Runs," off of "Barabajagal."

It makes me never want to fly Delta again.

I can't explain why Donovan rubs me the wrong way. I guess as an 80's punker, I just have a natural aversion to hippies -- it's a cats and dogs sort of thing. But there's somthing specific about Donovan -- maybe it's his syrupy-sweet brand of psychedelic pop -- that just makes me want to tear his lungs out every time I hear it.

Except for Season of the Witch. That was an okay song.

So. Any commercial soundtracks irritating you lately?

I hate the fact that Chevy is using Zeppelin tunes in their commercials. Chevy sucks ass and they shouldn't be using good tunes to lift them out of the gutter.

I hate to hear you have an aversion to hippies...since I'm just an old hippie at heart.

Yeah, his music hasn't aged well. I agree with you about "Season of the Witch"; the fusion tune "Sunny Goodge Street" is still pretty respectable as well.

I avoid commercials like the plague, but somebody is using Aerosmith's "Dream On" in their ads, and I don't think they're worthy. I keep hearing it from the next room.

Cingular/AT&T has started using The Band's song, "the weight" (as in, "take a load off fannie/take a load for free.) Only they never get to the chorus, just the first verse, which is not as catchy as the chorus and does nothing to sell cell phone service.

"...Hey mister can you tell me where a man might find a bed?/ He just turned and shook his head, and no was all he said."

...?

I like that song. I just can't figure out why they are using it that way.
