Another tea party

The weirdest thing about this story is that it happened in my neck of the woods.

Brilliant, though. This little gray-haired old lady scalds the crap out of the would-be carjacker with her hot tea then smashes the ceramic mug upside his head.

Moral of the story: Don't fuck with the tea lady.

Not to change the subject, but in the same newspaper that reported this story about the "elderly" woman, aged 57, referred more deferentially to a 52 year old male murder victim (rest his soul) as a "man in his fifties".

Not to change the subject again, but in our town, the police are pretty cool. I can think of one or two places about 60 miles north of here in which the woman would have been busted for assault. After all, WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS (uppity broad)?

I was just thinking the same thing (about the age thing) I mean, MY MOM just turned 58, and I think if anybody referred to her as "elderly", she's pop them in the mouth. Well, no, my mom wouldn't do that, but I might on her behalf! :D

If 57 is elderly, I guess I'm middle aged by now. How time flies!

There may be some unintentional sexism here, but I think it's more of a case of a reporter trying to elicit empathy for the subject of the story by referring to her as elderly rather than simply objectifying her. It makes for better copy to read about this unmedicated head-banging lunatic being foiled by a little old tea-drinking crone that it does to suggest she's a fit, virile woman-of-a-certain-age.

And from what I saw on the news, the shoe fits -- she looks older than what her age suggests.
