Friday was Robert’s IEP team meeting, the first such meeting we had at the tech school he is now at.
Not being familiar with the administration, not being overly familiar with the school, I had some trepidation. Would they play hardball with me? Would they try to sweep his issues under the rug, as so many schools do?
Turns out I had nothing to worry about. And that has a lot to do with how well Robert is doing there – he’s getting straight As across the board, according to his mid-term progress report. In fact, he’s doing so well in his math class that he’s getting bumped up, from a Title 1 program (basically, remedial math) to a college prep algebra course. The guidance counselor and I will stay in close touch as he transitions to make sure that he doesn’t fall behind.
The only thing that’s changed is that his English teacher requested an Alphasmart (a small computerized keyboard) for him to use for writing assignments, since his handwriting is so illegible. Amazingly, he had one before the meeting was over.
